It was no surprise that this amazing sequel to the Oscar-nominated film, Wreck-It Ralph, would be an astounding movie to experience. Not only does it explore the deeper realm of video games, by traversing the internet and online games, but it also provides a deeper insight into core friendships at the heart of this series.
The new movie starts off nicely, with a familiar throwback to the arcade where we were left off with these characters the last time, showing Ralph and Vanellope’s friendship now flourishing. However, the writers bamboozle us as the story takes a quick turn for the worst and the loveable duo must dive into the vast world of the internet to save the Princess’ game from being chucked away for scrap.
Yet, nonetheless, the film still manages at some success with its strong focus on the internet itself - mocking its trends and websites - and manages to tickle our ribs with its very ‘meta’ form of satirical comedy.
They’re also able to get us chuckling by having the characters trying out all the newest and oldest internet trends and clichés - creating a kind of daft slapstick out of daft, yet familiar blunders that the modern internet user will run into. Despite the numerous chortles and giggles the film draws out of us, it does also bring with it a more melancholy, touching side that successfully tugs on all our heart strings.
There are many moments that brought a tear to my eye and really moved me, winning me round even more to Disney’s already wonderfully amiable Ralph. Ultimately, this sequel to the very successful first film is a real rollercoaster of emotions and fun for all the family. I think it is an amazing experience and would strongly encourage you to watch it.
